The Sand Motor Run is a permanent fixture in the Sand Motor calendar. This running race is not about speed, but about experience. Feel the wind rushing through your hair while you run the most beautiful circuit in the Netherlands. You can’t get closer to the elements!
Running together to beat cancer
The Sand Motor Run brings together people who are connected by their love of the beach, while at the same time contributing to a good cause. The competition is linked to the Roparun: a major running event that raises money for the care of cancer patients and their loved ones.
Two of their teams volunteer to organise the Sand Motor Run, in collaboration with the province of South Holland. Your registration fee therefore goes directly to those who really need it.
Prefer to walk?
That’s also possible! On the same morning as the Sand MotorRun, we also organise a beautiful walk led by an experienced guide who will reveal all the secrets of this surprising nature reserve.

Route
What about your stamina? The Sand Motor Run route runs all the way across the beach, alongside the sea. There are 2 options: 5 or 10 kilometers. There is also a special 2 kilometer Kids Run. And rest assured, you won’t have to plod through the water on any of the runs. See below for the route maps.

The organisation
The Sand motorRun is a running race organised by the province of South Holland and the Roparun teams 208 (province of South Holland) and 209 (Mad-Runners). The event arose from the province of South Holland’s desire to make increase the popularity of the Sand Motor as a recreational area. At the same time, the two Roparun teams approached with a request to organise a run for a good cause. It was a match!
- Province of South Holland
The Sand Motor is a unique pilot that attracts a lot of attention, both nationally and internationally. The province of South Holland wants to make optimum use of the recreational value of the Sand Motor so that visitors can enjoy the area. They coordinate the organisation of the event and reimburse the expenses for the run.
- Roparun teams
The two Roparun teams are responsible for the practical organisation of the competition. These teams of volunteers take care of the routing and logistics, among other things.
- Decathlon
The Sand Motor Run is made possible in part by Decathlon. Decathlon supports the run by providing the start and finish arch and the start numbers.
- Volunteers
In addition, many volunteers work hard every year to organise the Sand Motor Run free of charge and to make it a success.
